Chelsea have claimed a narrow win over Malmo for the Europa League after they entered into the first leg of their last 32 tie, where the game was played in Sweden.
Ross Barkley managed to push in a curling cross from Pedro, and scored during the first half of the match. Olivier Giroud flicked for the second after Willian knocked the ball back having beaten his opponent in the box. Malmo made sure that it was a difficult ending for Chelsea after Anders Christiansen added another point in the 80th minute.
The win has eased the pressure for manager Maurizio Sarri, who had previously stated that his job was at risk after Chelsea were dominated by Manchester City 6-0 for the Premier League.
In their game versus Manchester City, Sarri looked defeated as he watched his team suffer their worst defeat in almost 30 years at Etihad Stadium. It was their fourth loss in ten games, and saw them drop to sixth place for the Premier League, leaving them 15 points behind Manchester City. The nervousness of the team was apparent when they entered the field against Malmo, but they became much more comfortable as the game continued, much to the relief of the manager.
Chelsea has remained undefeated in the Europa League so far this season, and are preparing for the second leg of the tournament, which is to be held at Stamford Bridge toward the end of February.
