French fans went wild after their team beat Croatia at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The victory is the second win for the French team in the World Cup, and their latest game against Croatia that saw the French walk away with 4-2 was one of the most entertaining matches in recent history.
By the time half-time was announced, France was in the lead with 2-1. The first goal of the match went to Croatia, gifted by star player Mario Mandzukic, followed not long after with a VAR penalty from Antoine Griezmann.
The second half pushed France further into the lead with strikes from Paul Pogba, as well as Kylian Mbappe. The two steered France toward the end of the final, with the game very much in their favour so far. Mandzukic was given another goal by Hugo Lioris, and both teams entered a nervous last twenty minutes.
France held on strong, however, and remained vigilant against Croatia’s assault, and by the time the whistle was blown, the team had won their first World Cup title in 20 years. The win also means that Didier Deschamps is the third man in history to win the World Cup as both coach and player, following in the footsteps of Germany’s Franz Beckenbauer and Mario Zagallo. The final also marked the highest scoring game in a championship since England bested Germany in a 4-2 victory during extra-time as far back as 1966, making this year’s final one to remember.
