Sadio Mana of Liverpool scored two goals that pushed his team to victory against Bayern Munich while playing at the Allianz Arena. The team has now advanced to the Champions League quarter finals for the second successive season. Both sides were able to create many opportunities as they played on a wet field at night in Munich, and both were guilty for giving away possession too often in the game.
Despite this, the Reds were playing a much more precise match, taking the lead in the tie during the 26th minute when Mane took down Virgil van Dijk’s pass before he fired the ball into an empty net just after Manuel Neuer had rushed from his own goal.
Bayern needed at least two goals to break even, and managed to pull one back when Joel Matop turned into their own net from a close range. The expected offensive from the German champions never came to fruition once the break had come to an end, and Van Dijk assured victory for his team in the last eight after powering home on James Milner’s corner. Mane closed off a superb display when he headed in six minutes from time, making it his 10th goal in his last 10 games.
The match ended on a bad note for Liverpool when full back Andrew Robertson took a yellow card in stoppage time, which means the player will be suspended from taking part in the first leg of the quarter final.
