Liverpool Beat Porto In Champions League Second Leg

April 19, 2019 by

Liverpool dominated Porto with an aggressive 6-1 aggregate victory that now sees them preparing to take on the Champion semi final tie with Spanish winners Barcelona.

The team started leading 2-0 from the start of the first leg at Anfield, with goals from Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmine, and Virgil van Djik. The Reds were forced to try and break through an early attack in the Estadio do Dragao before Mane opened the scoring with a brilliant sliding effort that he took from a scuffed shot from Salah, and the goal was confirmed by the VAR straight after.

Salah managed to strike in a second not long after the mid-game break, which came from a brilliant counter-attack before Eder Militao pulled the goal back for the hosting team. Liverpool was having none of it, and asserted their domination of the game through headers from van Djik and Firmine that saw them sealing an otherwise impressive victory.

Porto started the game looking capable of taking the win, especially as it was apparently that Liverpool’s sluggish start had them at a clear disadvantage until Mane’s goal seemingly changed the status quo of the match completely, and saw the momentum swing back into the favour of the visitors for the second leg. But until that point Liverpool were making constant issues, with Moussa Marega unable to convert any of his five chances during the first 20 minutes.

Liverpool is set to take on Barcelona for the first leg of the semi final.
