Manchester City has returned to their spot above Liverpool at the top of the Premier League leaderboards after a victory against Cardiff. Their latest win marks their eighth successive league victory for the defending champions as the team dominated the field, leading Jurgen Klopp’s side by a point with six games left in the series.
Pep Guardiola’s side, who are currently aiming for an unprecedented quadruple, will soon found out how they will finish if they manage to win their upcoming matches, but it’s doubtful that they will be as straightforward as their recent game against Cardiff. Kevin de Bryne claimed the opening score within the first five minutes thanks to his first league goal since December, squeezing a shot into the roof of Cardiff’s net from a tight angle.
Manchester City continued their possession and a number of chances followed before Leroy Sane pushed the lead to 2-0 a few moments before half time, sending his shot into the bottom corner after a chest known from Gabriel Jesus. Cardiff, who are currently five points behind the safety net, didn’t prove to be much of an opponent for City and didn’t manage to register an effort for a goal until Junior Hoilett had a shot blocked right at the end of the fist half.
City’s domination of the field continued into the second half, and while they weren’t able to add any more points to the score, their goal difference is now nine better than Liverpool.
