Tottenham Dominate Borussia Dortmund

February 15, 2019 by

Tottenham produced an incredible second half play to completely dominate their game against Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund, and have taken control of the Champions League last 16 tie while preparing for their first leg at Wembley.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team proved themselves worthy of advancing forward from the group stage after a miraculous revival, and have worked hard to establish a platform that will boost them to the quarter finals. The Spurs survived a first half that saw keep Hugo Lloris saved from a head from Dan-Axel Zagadou, allowing them to gather themselves for the second half.

The Spurs became an unstoppable force after the end of a tight first half, with Son Heung-min breaking through the deadlock just two minutes after the half-game break with a volley from Jan Vertonghen’s cross. Dortmund, who were regarded by many as the favourites against the Spurs – who are missing talisman Harry Kane and Dele Alli due to injury – failed to keep up against their opponents, with the home side taking the game within the last 10 minutes of the match.

Vertonghen, who’s game was outstanding, slid in on Serge Aurier’s delivery, with substitute player Fernando Llorente heading in Christian Eriksen’s near post corner. The Spurs maintained a clean game throughout, improving their chances of progressing further into the tournament. And while the Spurs would have settled for a one goal lead, the three goals they did manage means that they are now the new favourites for the second leg.
