As the UEFA Champions League Final is set to be played soon, Serhiy Kniazev, Chief of the National Police, has stated that the threat level in Kyiv will be increased due to the high potential of the match being attacked or interrupted in some way.
“From today and until the end of the events, we have an increased level of terrorist threat. Bomb disposal technicians in all regions must promptly and timely transmit information if any suspicious items are found,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has told reporters.
Serhiy Yarovy, the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs has also stated that the MIA units have been stationed for high alert until the end of the final game.
“A total of 26 air checkpoints and those of 51 highways and 53 railway routes will be involved. About 1000 border guards and 100 service dogs will be employed at the checkpoints. Some 11000 fans will arrive at Boryspil International Airport. About 15000 people are expected to arrive by car,” Yarovy has said.
Yarovy has further stated that security issues are not only the responsibility of the heads of state, but that the entire staff for the country needs to ensure the safety of everyone coming to see the events life. Kyiv has long been set to be the host of the finals for EUFA Champions League Final, but has also been a target for some of the terrorist activity that has been taking place in the country over the last few months.
