Spieth At Ease Ahead of 2017 USPGA
Jordan Spieth will attempt to become the youngest player ever to win the Career Grand Slam at this year’s USPGA Championship. Despite the tall order, the young American appeared cool and calm during a press interview, saying that he did not feel the pressure at all. The 24 year old has won three of the four majors – The Open at Royal Birkdale being the most recent.
A win at Quail Hollow on the weekend of 11 to 13 August will see Spieth surpassing golfing legend Tiger Woods – holder of the current record of youngest Grand Slam Champion. Tiger Woods is one of only 5 players to have achieved this particular feat – having joined the ranks of Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus at the tender age of 24 years, seven months and twenty five days.
Spieth is of the opinion that it isn’t all that important to be the youngest to achieve anything – this most probably the reason for his relaxed attitude ahead of the 2017 USPGA.
He went on to say that he was more mindful and nervous of navigating the bad weather conditions that have been predicted for the duration of the upcoming championship, than of breaking any world records.
Rory Mcllroy The 2017 Bookmakers’ Choice
Despite having yet to win a tournament in 2017, Bookmakers are sticking to their guns – installing Rory Mcllroy as the favourite to win this year’s USPGA Championship. Mcllroy won his last major title back in 2014 – the 2014 USPGA Championship.
Mcllroy was quoted as saying that 2017 had been a transitional year in many ways – one of which was splitting with his long time caddie JP Fitzgerald right after The Open at Royal Birkdale.
Despite a recent run that hasn’t been ideal, winning the 2017 USPGA Championship would still mean that the 28 year old would become only the third player ever to have won five major titles before having reached the age of 30.
No small achievement indeed.
Meanwhile In Japan
2017 is proving promising for Japanese player and world number three Hideki Matsuyama. The Japanese player will be aiming to better his Top 15 finish at The Open at Royal Birkdale. Winning the USPGA title would make Matsuyama the first Japanese man to win a major title.
Hideki Matsuyama will be coming to the 2017 USPGA on the back of having won the WGC Invitational.
