Silencing The Nay-Sayers
Saturday October the 7th sees Chris Eubank Jr taking on Avni Yildirim at Stuttgart’s Hanns-Martin- Schleyer Halle, in the quarter final contest for the super middleweight title in the World Boxing Super Series. The winner of that round will be squaring it off against the victor from the George Groves vs. Jamie Cox fight.
If Eubank were to play his cards right, Saturday’s brawl might very well end up being the perfect opportunity to shut up his critics for good. Many suspect Eubank to be merely attempting to ride the wave established by his famous boxing legend father, also Chris Eubank.
It must be said that Eubank Jr did, after all, fight veteran boxer Arthur Abraham to get a foot in the door for a go at the title.
Boxing No Place For The Faint Of Heart
Yildirim, too, has much to prove in the way of showing himself a worthy opponent. He certainly has not managed to get off to a great start as far as positive publicity goes. Wednesday’s pre-fight press conference ended in Yildirim’s manager trying to attack a member of Eubank’s entourage after first having referred to Eubank as arrogant.
He eventually demanded that Eubank’s man be escorted from the room before calling an abrupt end to the conference and leaving with Yildirim in tow.
The Plot Thickens
Meanwhile, adding spice to the already heavy broth, Eubank Jr has announced that the possibility of his moving from boxing to MMA must not be ruled out. Speaking to the press he announced that if the money was right, he would certainly make the move. He did add that the offer would have to be financially very rewarding as he was currently sitting quite pretty as a result of his lucrative boxing career.
George Groves’ Reason For Banking On A Eubank Win
George Groves will be taking on Jamie Cox on October 14th and has expressed the wish that Chris Eubank Jr be his next in line. He has warned that one or two challenges might prevent this from happening, saying that Yildirim was not an opponent to be taken in one’s stride, especially not considering the large group of Turkish supporters expected ring-side.
Groves went on to say that it was the mental edge to a fight that he found truly stimulating and that the two Eubanks would be the perfect duo to provide this in the run up to a stand-off.
Groves may very well be granted his wish yet.
