Jordan Zunic And Adam Bland In Shared Lead
The Australian PGA is officially in full swing and the Aussies could not have gotten off to a better start. Jordan Zunic and Adam Bland currently share the lead, with Sergio Garcia having set the pace earlier on during the day.
Garcia started the day by teeing off at 6:10, something that was by his own admission, a first for the Australian. He jokingly said that it had been the closest that he had ever had a breakfast and a dinner together.
Zunic had a better deal of it, and only got going in the afternoon. It was obviously an ideal time which was well suited to his particular form as he ended up working up an eagle at number 9 and finishing the day sharing the leader position with Adam Bland. Zunic had not really showed his true colours since 2015, but this certainly seems to have finally changed.
Zunic cited the recipe to his successful comeback as being his girlfriend’s doing. Speaking to the press, Zunic said that she had recommended that he read fellow professional golfer Nick O’Hern’s book, “Tour Mentality”, and that he had realised that it was indeed a mindset shift that was necessary in order to save his game.
Bland On The Up And Up
Bland, on the other hand, dropped a shot, resulting in the fall to the shared leadership position. He ended his game at six under par. Bland blamed the blunder on trying to make a few additional birdies come in, but it was just not happening for him. He reminisced that it would have been nice not to make a bogey on the final green, but that it was what it was and at least he still ended up in the lead, albeit a shared lead.
Bland has placed himself in the highly favourable position of potentially earning the coveted ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit award after his having finished in the runner-up position of the Oats Vic Open, in third position in the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth and finishing among the top 5 in this year’s Fiji International.
Bland was notably excited as he spoke to the press, saying that it was an exciting prospect to be in the running for such a prestigious award and that he had gotten close in the past, but never quite capped the big one.
