Paul Casey’s latest victory playing in Tampa made it three wins in a row for the European cast of players for the PGA Tour in the first time in seven years, and the timing couldn’t be better, with the Masters fast approaching. Despite their string of wins, Rory Mcllroy, Francesco Molinari, and Casey are aware that their latest victories in Florida don’t guarantee more wins when they head out to play in Georgia.
The three will be arriving at Augusta overflowing with confidence, especially considering this isn’t the first time the trio have seen simultaneous victory after sharing the European Ryder’s Cup in France last year. And the same can’t be said for their American counterparts, who all, save for Dustin Johnson, have failed to maintain consistency throughout the year so far.
The world’s best players are set to contest the WGC Match Play, to be held in Austin. The competition will provide a different dynamic to what they’re usually used to, even when they are guaranteed a minimum of three group matches. Casey successfully defended the title at the Valspar Championship, while Mcllroy earlier managed to overcome a string of near misses for last year’s Open Championship, and Molinari has proven that he has not lost his winners luck thanks to his trophy win while at Tampa Bay.
Dustin Johnson, who is currently the world number one, has wins in both Saudi Arabia and Mexico, and has only two wins outside of the top 10 in eight starts this year.
