Peter Siddle Has Announced His Retirement

January 1, 2020 by

Peter Siddle, the esteemed Australian paceman, has made public the news that he’ll be retiring from the world of international Cricket. He’s 35-years old and has taken 221 wickets in an influential 67-Test career.

Siddle let his teammates know at the Melbourne Cricket Ground after he was released from the side for the third and final Test versus New Zealand in Sydney. He said that it’s always a challenge to know when the right time is and that for him The Ashes was the main goal. He wanted to be on that touring party and compete in the Series. He said that he was talking to Captain Tim Paine and Coach Justin Langer after he’d ticked that off his list, thinking that he could have retired then and there, but was hopeful for the chance of getting one last shot if he could have.

Siddle won’t disappear from the Cricket scene entirely and will continue to take part in domestic games for Victoria and the Adelaide Strikers Twenty20 team in the Big Bash League. He will also take part in English county Cricket games for Essex.

Siddle was born in Victoria and although he languished on the fringes of the Australians’ pace attack for some time, he recently managed to snag a spot in the Ashes earlier on in 2019. His Test debut was in 2008 in Mohali and his maiden wicket was Sachin Tendulkar. His ability to keep his energy up over long spells saw his earn a reputation as a dynamo paceman and he’ll no doubt be missed by fans and his fellow players alike.
