The newly-named Australian Sports Museum, home to the biggest collection of sporting memorabilia in the country, will be reopening soon, after it’s AU$17 million upgrade. If you want to be among the first people to experience what it has to offer now you can buy a ticket for the redeveloped attraction as of the 17th of January and then see the sights at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday the 29th of February.
The Australian Sports Museum is committed to bringing stories to life in a fun, playful way and will be focusing on creating immersive experiences via cutting-edge technology. Visitors will be encouraged to become a part of the action as they explore all the different facets of this country’s sporting culture.
You can expect everything from avatars to touchscreens, climbable objects through to sporting challenges, and will be encouraged to discover, explore, and play your way through Australian Rules Football, Cricket, Horse Racing, the Olympics, and more. The aim is to reveal how grassroots and elite sports shape not just our lives but our national identity.
There will even be first-hand accounts by a few special personalities detailing the experiences they’ve had in sports. One of the highlights of these will be a life-size 3D hologram of Bachar Houli, the AFL Premiership and Richmond defender. Houli will have a candid chat with visitors, telling them about his experience at the elite level of the AFL, starting from the emotional impact when he was first drafted and including the fairytale 2017 flag for his team.
