Australia’s Production Car Series will be running as part of the Australian Motor Racing Series for all four its remaining rounds. This according to MRF Tyres APC Manager and Ontic Sports Director Iain Sherrin.
The initial plan was to run the series as part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships events program, but the recent necessary reshuffle led to a conflicting schedule in terms of the endurance formats part of a regular feature of the season. Shannons is as a series evolving in a direction no longer in harmony with the Australian Production Car Series’ endurance format. Main challenges as highlighted by Sherrin include the inability to access venues and track time in general, and of particular importance, the pit garages.
The main focus point now, said Sherrin, is to look at new ways in which to maintain endurance formats at an affordable price as well as at key venues. This is very much line with what series-competitors have indicated to be the current need.
Sherrin furthermore referred to the current economic climate as one not forgiving of Ontic Sports’ capabilities as a company when considering decisions such as visiting particular venues and hosting its own events and on its own steam and expense account. The AMRS’s gesture of approaching the series with the suggestion of possibly being of help by offering to allow it to run on the AMRS’s own dates is according to Sherrin, an “extraordinary” display of cooperation in particularly challenging and even downright difficult times.
