Archer Could Have Cost Cricket Millions

July 20, 2020 by

It’s safe to say Jofra Archer isn’t exactly getting in line to win any popularity awards right now. Far from it in fact, especially as far as his fellow England Cricket players are concerned.

Archer failed his team and teammates in the worst possible way when he, instead of driving directly from Southampton to Manchester, being the first and second venues of the first Test against the Windies, decided to break biosecurity protocol by paying his home in Brighton a visit along the way. And according to director of men’s cricket at the England and Wales Cricket Board, Ashley Giles, Archer’s “oversight” is a mistake that could have cost England Cricket millions of pounds.

Archer’s thoughtless action could very well have caused the type of ripple effect that would have cost English cricket an entire summer, millions in revenue lost, and even a threat of bankruptcy. Giles said he doubts whether the player even understands exactly what it is that is currently at stake. Things much bigger than what Archer is even able to grasp, continued a clearly deflated Giles, could very well have been the outcome of what the player had done.

Archer will now have to go through a period of self-isolation, followed by a rigorous testing, before he’ll even be allowed to set as much as foot in the direction of his team-mates, let alone the pitch. He will also have to test negative before his period of self-isolation is suspended.

A potentially deadly series of consequences only barely escaped.
