Adam Treloar’s relationship with Collingwood, so says a prominent sports reporter, can only be described as “toxic”.
The source of the theatrical show of drama currently at play between the Pies and Treloar is Collingwood’s insistence on trading the player to another club despite five more years remaining on Treloar’s contract.
Worst of all is that Collingwood’s decision is the result of the club assuming to know Treloar better than what the player knows himself. Despite Treloar’s commitment to continuing to put out a high-level of performance despite partner and professional netballer Kim’s relocation to Queensland with the couple’s daughter, Collingwood has emerged largely sceptical of anything Treloar as said or suggested thus far.
What the Pies are essentially saying is that there are those able to handle such a move and separation and others not capable of dealing any of it. And what they are also saying is that they know Treloar to be one of those people not able to deal with such a situation – even despite his repeated insistence that he is.
What can be taken from the rapidly deteriorating relationship between Treloar and the Pies, says sports reporter Jon Ralph, is the “dirty” nature of the game. Likening the game to a game that can get very bit as dirty as Poker, Ralph described the situation surrounding Treloar to be toxic and extremely volatile.
Collingwood, not unlike any other franchise it their position, said Ralph, are obviously entitled to expect 100% from their players. It’s only that their way of conveying the message has been incredibly warped.
