Australia skipper Aaron Finch says since he considers India captain Virat Kohli to be the best one-day player of all time, his side should be careful of assuming that he’ll be easily contained simply because he’ll be without the support of stalwart opener Rohit Sharma. Kohli’s armour is reasonably free of “chinks”, Finch reportedly cautioned his team earlier this week.
Austria and India go head-to-head in the first of 3 ODIs at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Friday. And according to Finch, the worst thing the Aussie side could possibly think of doing is to play a defensive game for as long as the India captain is part of the playing XI.
Kohli is as celebrated as international crickets come – averaging a confounding 59.33 in One Day Internationals. This places him at the top of the 50-matches list. Also, his is a record a phenomenal 43 centuries strong – 8 of which were clobbered against Australia.
But Australia isn’t without a secret weapon of its own. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa has this year alone dismissed the Indian captain on two occasions – which is quite the stunt when the batsman being denied his next run is Virat Kohli. In total, Zampa has five times over made quick work of the skipper.
Zampa and Kohli both competed in this year’s Indian Premier League, which competition saw Kohli struggling to find his form. Zampa will without a doubt be looking hard at what’s left of Kohli’s armour to see if indeed it’s as chink-free as suggested by Finch.
