Harris In Search Of A Club After Talks Fail

May 24, 2021 by

AFLW player Tayla Harris is in search of a new home after pay-talks broke down irretrievably with management at Carleton.

Blues coach Daniel Harford disclosed the reason for Harris’ departure on Friday morning, saying the club couldn’t reach a favourable agreement with the player given her terms and pay-demands. Harris’ manager, Alex Saundry, has also in the meantime confirmed having started to enter into talks with other clubs ahead of the sport’s sign and trade period, which is set to commence on May 31st.

According to a report ran by the Herald Sun, Harris’ demands included asking for $150,000 to play through 2022 – this despite a forgettable 2021 season that witnessed her kicking only four goals from eight games. She also finished outside of the top 15 of the club’s best and fairest count for the year. According to Harford, the talks broke down after it became apparent that no agreement would be reached.

He explained that what had made the negotiations all the more difficult had been the club’s modus operandi of wanting to ensure that all its players received the rewards they deserved. The gap, said Harford, was simply too big for finding the necessary common ground for coming to a mutually acceptable agreement with the player. He added that while Harris had certainly added value to the club, her recent stroke of non-performance made it impossible to justify her exceptionally high pay-demands.

Saundry has in the meantime insisted that despite Harris’ poor recent performance, her credentials still spoke for themselves.
