Australia Set to Rise to World Cup Pressure
Australia is well aware of the huge pressure leading up to the World Cup tournament, the 10th in which this team will be participating in, but remain doggedly determined to not simply meet, but exceed all expectations.
The accepted truth as far as the defending champions are concerned is that anything less than a win at the World Cup tournament will be a total failure for them as a team. The team is captained by Meg Lanning at the moment, and she shares this all or nothing belief with her teammates.
Success for Australia is Binary
The Australian female cricket team, also known by their nickname the Southern Stars, struggled to manage their expectation levels as far as the World Cup is concerned, and are determined to emerge as the best. They are, and always have been, a team for whom triumph is a twofold concept: either the trophy will be claimed or they will feel like failures on their trip home.
This Attitude Serves the Team
This approach seems to be paying off: they have won 6 of 10 World Cups since the debut of the event back in 1973, including 2 of the last 3. Overall, this team has succeeded in an extraordinary 70% of all the 300 ODIs they have taken part in.
Mathew Mott Agrees with His Team
Mathew Mott, coach, is very aware of the competition his team faces. He has been in charge of the Australian women’s cricket team since their 1st successful Ashes campaign in 2015, and was part of their defeat by the West Indians in the World T20 final which took place in India last year.
He has stated that he is well aware of not only his team’s expectations but their supporters’ hopes as well, but agreed that this is part of the deal when you are the 1st ranked team in the world. He said that his team were under no illusions as to how difficult the game would be, but that he hoped to embrace the challenges sure to arise.
Mott spoke of it being a privilege that they were expected to do as well as they are, and that this was very positive for world cricket. He stated that not showing up was not an option, and although the competition would be fierce, he was confident of his team’s ability.
