Adelaide Crows To Host Western Bulldogs On Weekend
It’s official: only 8 rounds remain until the 2017 Australian Football League finals get underway. Round 16 will kick off on the weekend, with Adelaide Crows going head-to-head with Western Bulldogs. Things aren’t looking particularly up for the Western Bulldogs, having been defeated 3 times in 4 games since the 11th round.
Facing Adelaide Crows, who currently hold second place, may prove to add insult to injury. However, it must also be mentioned that the Crows have inspired doubt among fans as to whether they would truly be up to performing when the going gets tough.
The Crows did, after all, lose to North Melbourne and Hawthorn during rounds 7 and 14.
The Adelaide Crows will be playing round 16 on home turf and this will mark the first time that they will host the Dogs at the Adelaide Oval.

How do the two teams compare?
The Crows are currently ahead as far as being the highest scoring team in this year’s competition goes, at 114 points per game. The Bulldogs seem at home in 14th position – with 83 points. The Western Bulldogs, however, are a physical force to contend with. They are ranked No. 1 as far as tackles are concerned – averaging in at 77.6 tackles per game. To top it all off: history favours the Bulldogs, and has done so since 1991.
Rivalry between the two teams is fuelled by the Bulldogs continuously stepping on the Crows’ toes – during home as well as away games. The Crows did however manage to get their own back – by winning three of the battles that mattered most: the 1997 and 1998 preliminary finals and the 2015 elimination final.
Adelaide Crows Calling In Big Guns
Veteran midfielder Scott Thompson will be returning to the AFL for the game against the Western Bulldogs. This will be Thompson’s first major league game since September last year.
In another surprising move, Don Pyke has also reinstated veteran Andy Otten – in the hopes of making up for the loss of defender Kyle Hartigan. Hartigan will be sitting out of the action for at least a month as a result of a hamstring injury.
Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge responded positively when asked to make plausible predictions regarding the upcoming clash, saying that the Bulldogs have been identifying inconsistencies and were hoping to correct them by the coming weekend – in which case they would be a tough team to beat.
