Alex Rance has stunned the AFL community after he announced that he was bringing his distinguished 200-game career with Richmond Football Club to an end. Commentators, fans, and players alike have reacted with shock and sadness.
Rance missed out on most of the games in the 2019 season after he ruptured his ACL in Round 1, and he was forced to watch from the sidelines as the Tigers rode to glory in the Premiership. He let his teammates know of his resolution recently, telling them that he was going to be stepping away from the game and focussing on his faith and his family for the foreseeable future.
In a statement released to the press, Rance said that he prides himself on being someone who always tries their best when they’ve made a commitment. He said that he was gratified by the amount of time, dedication, and energy he’s given to his career as a Footballer but that this period has come to an end for him.
He revealed that he feels that he’s served his purpose in terms of his performances on the field and is grateful for the cultural impact he’s had. He made special mention of the support given him by his Club, saying that it was thanks to their care that he had always been able to follow his instincts and do things his own way. He said that it is now time to put that same time and devotion into other areas in his life.
