The newly expanded stadium, Adelaide Arena, situated at Jiangwan Stadium in China, is expected to sell out for the ninth round between Gold Coast and Port Adelaide.
The Chinese presence expected at the Stadium is reportedly going to be much larger, with 50 percent of the tickets already sold to locals, a notable increase as compared to ticket sales from last year.
David Stevenson, the AFL GM of India and China, has told reporters that there were just a “handful of tickets” left, and said that the rest to be officially sold out within the next few days. He’s reported as saying, “We will have a bigger proportion of local Chinese at the game. We probably had 30 percent last year, and this year it will be closer to 50 percent. We’ve done more marketing, social media, and now have 22 schools involved in our AFL program. We’re also getting more interest in the game because of the broadcasters. This year we’ve already had six rounds of AFL aired in China.”
During round eight of last season, the stadium reported over 10000 fan attendance, and the AFL had to add more seats for the second Chinese game.
The stadium itself has had an overhaul, with the surface graded to the AFL standard, and the arena itself has seen a large expansion over the last twelve months. This includes custom-built rooms for changing, which have been placed behind the stands, which themselves are interchangeable.
