Rumours are rife that the two biggest names in the world of Australian Boxing are set to square off soon. Jeff Horn is preparing to fight Tim Tszyu, son of the legendary Kostya, the former Lineal and Unified Light-Welterweight titlist.
Horn and Tszyu are apparently close to clinching a deal for what will be a truly epic showdown pitting two of the greatest combatants in Australia against one another. According to Mike Coppinger, Boxing columnist for The Athletic subscription-based sports website, the pair are close to finalising a date in April 2020. The match will be fought at 70 kilograms, the Middleweight Division. Aussie journalist Ben Damon confirmed that the details were nearing confirmation.
Horn made his reputation when he defeated Manny Pacquiao, professional boxer and Senator of the Philippines, for the Welterweight title in 2017. He recently beat Michael Zerafa in a rematch on December 18th 2019, securing a Majority Points Decision over his opponent. This was after Zerafa almost ended Horn’s career last year when he stopped him in the ninth round of the Battle of Bendigo in August.
Tszyu is not only the son of a champion, but he is also undefeated across 15 professional fights with 11 knock-outs. Reports have indicated that one of the challenges to getting the deal with Horn has been based on how the purse will be split, but Tszyu has denied this. He says he doesn’t care about the money, he’s only concerned with beating the best pugilist in the country.
