Afghanistan is celebrating their first Test win thanks to Rahman Shah’s 78 and Ihsanullah Janat’s 65 that helped them claim a seven wicket win against Ireland. Starting the da four on 29-1 and chasing a total of 147 for the win, the duo set the standard with a 139 run partnership that had ended any chances for the Irish team to end the day with a win.
After shooting 98 in Afghanistan’s first innings, Shah was out for 76, which was three short of their winning target. Mohammed Nabi quickly removed the player from the pitch, but the Afghan team did not hesitate in pushing forward. Hashmatullah Shahidi claimed the winning boundary, prompting celebrations for the Afghanistan team in the dressing room.
Winning captain Asghar Afghan, who himself took 67 in the first innings stated that it was a historic day for his team and his people, continuing by saying that they had been playing for a while, and that they had now been playing first-class cricket, so they had the composure. The added that their bowlers were very good, and they’re now preparing to take on South Africa for the World Cup, and they will continue to try their best to play good cricket.
Ireland remained on the back food from the start of day one when they were bowled out for 172. Afghanistan responded with 314, including a 144 run first innings lead, and despite efforts from Ireland, they were ultimately not able to keep up.
