Australia Wins Ashes Series 3-0

Ashes Series Done And Dusted

It’s done.  Australia has thrashed England 3-0 in an Ashes series that leaves 2 games to spare and a lot of wound-licking to follow for Joe Root’s side.  Josh Hazlewood rocked the English boat by smashing away at 5 wickets for 218 runs as England were sent on their merry ways before you could check the clock and say “time for high tea”.

The rain conspired to save England’s bacon by delaying the match by three hours as a result of damp patches on the pitch and bouts of rain throughout the entire morning.  But none of it was enough as England lost their final 6 wickets for 85 runs at the WACA.

Arguably, no Aussie is happier than Steve Smith, having led his men to the first Ashes victory under his captaincy.  And then of course, there’s Josh Hazlewood who might as well have been left to his own devices and Australia would most probably still have won.

This is Australia’s 7th win in 8th Ashes Series on home soil.

Bayliss Reckons He’s Still The Right Man For The Job

English coach Trevor Bayliss has said that he believed that he was still the right man for the job despite his side losing the Ashes Test.  Bayliss, 54, went on to say that England’s performances had been good over the last couple of years and that one should not merely be looking at one Test Series when making important decisions.

Bayliss began coaching the English side in 2015 and shortly after led them to a smashing victory of the Ashes Series on home soil.  England proceeded to reign victorious in South Africa during the winter of that year, as well as making it to the World T20 finals in India.

Bayliss had been trying to fill a number of positions in the English side over the last couple of years, but has not had much success in getting England to where they really needed to be.  He commented on this, saying that compiling a super squad was a work in progress and that one did not simply turn anyone into a super-star overnight.

Bayliss has also said that he had no plans to be cutting anyone from the side, and that surmisings that the absence of Ben Stokes was to blame for their loss was unfounded and unsubstantiated.

The good coach finished off by saying that he would have to see how the final 2 games went before making any decisions this way or that.
