Australia Wins Opening Women’s ODI Series Match

October 22, 2018 by

Australia played their opening game for their Five-match ODI series against Pakistan with a five wicket victory despite the heavy rains that are affecting Malaysia. After their dismissal of Pakistan for 95 in 37.2 overs, Australia managed to chase down their target with 112 balls and banked their latest win.

A small scare was caused at the Kinrara Oval in Kuala Lumpur when the Australian team lost three wickets for just 12 runs, and slopped back to 52-3, but Rachael Haynes and Beth Mooney did their best to make sure their team pushed through. Megan Schutt and Nicola Carey, both pace bowlers, led the assault with figures of 3-17 and 3-19 respectively, while Georgia Wareham finished her first international overseas game by earning 2-22.

Pakistan’s innings were shortened to 41 overs due to a two-and-a-half delay that was caused by heavy rain, and the team was not able to regain any real traction, although Sana Mir offered a knock off of 21 off 60 while captain Javeria Khan contrasted that with 27 balls.

Australia made a strong start to the game with Alyssa Healy and Nicole Bolton posting 40 before Healey hit a mini-slump when she was bowled by Nashra Sandhu with the last ball during the seventh over. Captain Meg Lanning gave Pakistan some hope when Mir managed to knock out the pair in succession, but Australia eventually finished off the game 95-5 in the 23d over. The ODI series will continue at the same venue.
