England’s Danielle Wyatt’s final score of 64 led England to a five wicket win against India that sealed the women’s Twenty20 for the team. England dominated the field during their chase of 112, only slipping from 45-1 to 56-4. But thanks to composed batting from Wyatt, and a shared 47 with Lauren Winfield, the two were able to take the tourists to victory with five balls to spare while playing in Guwahati.
Earlier, Katherine Brunt had taken three wickets while Linsey Smith took two as their opponents were restricted to 111-8. The two teams are now preparing for the third and final game of the series. 27 year old Wyatt had not passed the 50 mark in any of the first 70 T20 internationals that she had played, but now has two hundreds and four half centuries from her last 20 innings. Despite being labelled as frustrating by captain heather Knight after dismissal in Wyatt’s first ODI, along with a drop from the second, she has returned for the third and seems to have upped her game.
England had initially lost their one day series in Mumbai 2-1, but had since outclassed India in record time. After their next match, they are set to take on Sri Lanka for three one day internationals, as well as three T20s. Bowler Brunt, along with spinner Alex Hartley will be staying with the squad for the upcoming leg of the tour following injuries that were suffered by Georgia Elwiss and Sophie Ecclestone.
