Aussie fast-bowler Josh Hazlewood says to him personally, this year’s Indian Premier League competition marked the perfect opportunity to get into top form for the T20 World Cup. While fellow pacers Kane Richardson, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins chose to return home and not play in the second leg of the cash-rich tournament, Hazlewood made the best of his return to the competition for its UAE-leg.
Hazlewood, who competes for 2021 IPL title winners the Chennai Super Kings, said “preparation time” had been part of his thinking and decision-making process all along. The 30-year-old Australian has now linked up with the country’s national T20 squad in Abu Dhabi.
What will undoubtedly serve Hazlewood well is the wealth of experience gained from the T20 games played in the past six months. He said this week he could not help but feel much more comfortable and confident in his role now that he’s become so familiar with the conditions of the pitches in the Gulf country. He said his role remains pretty simple, regardless of whether he happens to be playing for the Chennai Super Kings or for Australia.
The star pacer added that while he doesn’t think it’s even possible to dominate T20 cricket as a bowler, he’s still feeling “pretty good” about how far his game has come.
Hazlewood played 9 games for the Chennai Super Kings during the second leg of the competition. He emerged a leading wicket-taker for the famous IPL squad.
