John Hastings has admitted that his cricket career may be over permanently unless the player can find a way to deal with the sudden illness that has been causing him to cough up blood on the pitch.
The 32-year-old who has played for Australia in all three formats, and who has retired from one and four-day cricket events has had to change his prospective future in the world T20 circuit after he was incapacitated on the field.
Hastings has been coughing up blood during his bowling sessions, and it’s believed that the blood vessels in his lungs are bursting from the intense physical stress put on his body as he bowls.
The player initially noticed the condition a few years ago, and although he has undergone extensive tests, doctors have been unable to determine what the problem is. For the foreseeable future, Hastings will be sidelined for the upcoming Big Bash season, not long after he had signed up with the Sydney Sixers.
Hastings, who once captained the Melbourne Stars, has an accomplished career, playing 19 ODIs, nine T20Is, and one Test. So far, he has stated that he has been presented with two invasive treatments that he was uncomfortable with. He added that he will continue to work with his doctors and hope to find a diagnosis for his illness, but will be taking a break from professional games over the next few months, although this timeline could be extended to a more permanent state.
