If the health of world cricket is going to be maintained, then Australia must tour England in September. This according to Australia head coach Justin Langer, on the topic of whether or not Australian players should run the risk of travelling and playing internationally amid the challenges of a global world health crisis.
It is Langer’s contention that the country should play its part in breathing life into international cricket, and that this should happen even if it meant having to spend time away from family for extended periods of time. Langer voiced these opinions and more during a recent interview with a prominent Aussie news publication, saying that there are too many reasons to mention regarding why he feels so strongly about Australia playing a leading redeeming role.
Langer also believes that the same applies to releasing players to take part in the Indian Premier League. He did however refer to the many uncertainties now prevailing in terms of new IPL dates, how those dates with affect the Australian domestic season, how travelling to India on the new dates will affect local players, and even what physical distancing for extended periods of time would look like in India.
For Lager, the health of world cricket should come first, and he seems to believe that Australia somehow owes a certain loyalty to its fellow international cricket-playing countries. Lager says he recognises that there will be many challenges associated with travelling to and staying in England, but that solutions should be found and implemented in order to make the September tour happen.
