Mitchell Stark Claims Twin Hat Trick

November 12, 2017 by

The Starc Contrast

Mitchell Starc is being saluted as being the best as well as the most dangerous bowler in the world after he became the first bowler in 40 years, and the very first in Australia, to have claimed not one, but two hat tricks in the same first class match at the Hurstville Oval.  Starc was a key ingredient in a recipe for success for New South Wales as they beat Western Australia by 171 runs on Tuesday.

The feat has afforded Starc the honour of having become only the 8th bowler in the history of cricket to manage two hat tricks in a single match.  Legend Glen McGrath is almost as impressed with Starc’s feat as Starc himself.  Speaking to the press, McGrath said that it was Starc’s bowling pace and length that made him such a perilous force to contend with.  McGrath welcomed Starc’s unique and dangerous bowling skills, saying that this was the type of bowling that would be vital when playing England.

First In Many Years

Starc’s twin hat trick was the first of its kind since Amin Lakhani did the same when playing against the Indian Tourists back in 1978 in Multan.

Both Starc and Cummins will rest from the final round of Sheffield Shield matches in order to be physically prepared for the first Ashes Test.  Starc’s destructive bowling powers had also been on display when the Blues defeated South Australia at the Adelaide Oval during last week.

Shaun Marsh Now An Obvious Choice

Meanwhile, on the flip side of that particular coin, Western Australian batsman Shaun Marsh has managed 91 innings in the spat against New South Wales.  This certainly will be going a long way towards the argument of a recall to the Australian Test team.

Marsh struck 13 fours and 2 sixes out of a 130 ball knock as Western Australia tried to chase down 395 on the third and final afternoon of the Sheffield Shield game in Sydney.  Marsh, who is a left-handed bowler, will most probably be considered for either an opening or a middle order position when playing for the Ashes.

It was a stellar game not only for Marsh, but also for New South Wales and Australian captain Steve Smith.  Smith managed his 34th first class century on Tuesday.  Smith has also praised Starc for his performance, saying that Starc bowled like an absolute genius.
