Australian Test Captain Tim Paine in a recent side swipe at India suggested that Australia’s Gabba-opponents are good at creating wilful distractions by hampering on things that “do not matter” ahead of significant contests and tournaments.
Paine, while recently commenting on India’s historic Test win against Australia at the Gabba, stirred the pot of opinion when he pointed out that India’s information provided to the press about the Men in Blue being unwilling to travel to Brisbane had been purposefully misleading and a cunning ploy to distract. Paine added that India’s supposed unwillingness to compete at the Gabba over fears of rising infections had played a key and nasty role in Australia’s devastating historic loss at the flagship Australian venue.
India ahead of the final Test of the series revealed to the media that the squad had insisted on playing in Sydney because of the situation surrounding bio-bubble protocols and travel in relation to Brisbane. India however then went on to travel to Brisbane as well as to win the final at the Gabba. This had created a massive distraction and a losing of focus for Australia, revealed the Test captain late last week.
Paine told an Australian news giant that part of the challenge of playing against the Men in Blue has traditionally been that of ignoring India’s habit of trying to “niggle” their opponents into losing focus, and that there had been times in the recent series that the Australian contingent had fallen for the scheming plot.
