Great Expectations For Adam Scott At Open Royal Birkdale
Aussie pro-golfer Adam Scott is expected to deliver nothing short of a sterling performance at this year’s 146th Open Royal Birkdale. Scott, who reigned supreme as Master’s Champion in 2013, finished among the Top 10 at the Augusta National earlier this year.
The World Number 9’s game ended in a tie for 9th at 2 under par – making for a 9th Top 25 finish and 5th Top 10 finish at Augusta National.
Scott nominated six tournaments at the beginning of 2017 that he considered to be title fights, the 146th Open Royal Birkdale being one of the key events. The Aussie’s master plan for 2017 was to make his way up to World No. 1 at least once more during his golfing career.
Birkdale may prove to be the key to unlocking that particular door.
It’s A Royal Open For Australia
Australia has no less than ten representatives competing in this year’s British Open. Set to tee off on July 16, it will be lucky number 10 for Birkdale to be hosting the premier golfing event of the year. Birkdale is one of the jewels in golf’s crown, and with fairways meandering crisscross through majestic sand dunes looking out over the entire course, it’s the ideal location for spectators to enjoy a bird’s eye view of the action.
The finishing hole plays in the direction of Birkdale’s unique stark white modern deco clubhouse overlooking rolling fields of lushious green – the perfect location to be crowned golf’s King of the Swing.
The last Open to be held at Birkdale was The 137th Open, in 2008.
Aussies Joining Scott At Birkdale
The other Australians set to join Scott at this year’s Open are Cameron Smith, Ashley Hall, Marc Leishman, Aaron Baddeley, Scott Hend, Adam Bland, Matthew Griffen, Ryan McCarthy and Jason Day.
Champion golfer Darren Clarke describes The Open as being the sweetheart event of golf’s majors, and Birkdale as being tough and demanding – but also absolutely sensational. Clarke went on to say that he felt exceptionally fortunate to have his name on the esteemed Claret Jug – the absolute pinnacle in any pro-golfer’s career.
What makes Birkdale all the more challenging is the remorseless wind that blows in from the Irish Sea.
Birkdale requires each player’s undivided attention, accurate ball striking and a flawless playing posture – ensuring that there can be only one Champion Golfer of the Year.
