Thai Ariya Jutanugarn, who is currently the world number one, has set her sights on taking the $1 million bonus prize at the Tour Championship after winning almost every major LPGA award so far this season.
The 22-year-old is the defending champion has accumulated three title wins this year so far, which includes her second win at the US Women’s Open, as well as the Ladies Scottish Open, and her second Kingsmill Championship victory in three years.
She’s also been crowned LPGA Player of the Year, the Annika Award for best results in majors, the season money title, and the Top 10 prize with 16 op-10 showings. She currently leads the tour in under-par rounds, birdies, scoring average, and rounds in the 60s. Along with this, she leads the season points chase for the CME Globe season bonus award of $1 million as she enters the season finale at the Tiburon Golf Club in Naples.
Talking to reporters, Ariya said that her position in the global ranks means a lot to her as she’s worked hard to reach her rank, and that her most important goal moving forward is improving her game every day. She’s on course to become the first LPGA player in history to take all major tour awards in one season. Her closest opponent at the moment is Australian fifth-ranked Minjee Lee, who has stated that she’s focused on the challenge at hand, and not on the large bonus prize.
