Henrik Stenson Wins Hero World Challenge

December 11, 2019 by

Swedish Henrik Stenson claimed his first title on over two years after winning at the Hero World Challenge that took place in the Bahamas. The Swedish player hit an eagle on the 15th, shooting a final round of 66 and finishing on 18 under, which was just a single shot ahead of defending champion Spanish Jon Rahm. Patrick Reed had edged fellow compatriot Tiger Woods by two shots, while English Justin Rose had ended his day with a joint fifth.

Stenson, talking about his win, told reporters that he had found good momentum, and that sometimes it’s just about working hard and grinding out the win. He added that every shot of the day was five wood to a few inches on the 15th, and that he had been pleased about it.

Former Open winner Stenson, who is 43 years old, had not won a single PGA event since he claimed the Wyndham Championship in August of 2017. Rahm had secured second place in New Providence thanks to an effort that consisted of hitting birdies on both the 14th and the 16th, as well as an eagle on the 15th. Gary Woodland, who had been the overnight leader, slipped down to seventh place after an otherwise disappointing one over par 73 for his last round.

43-year-old host, Woods, shot a last round of three under par 69, but 29 year old Reed had finished just above him on 16 under, despite a two hour penalty.
