Injured Shoulder Forces Daly’s Withdrawal from the US Senior Open

Just 1 week after he withdrew from the PGA Tour Champions’ Wisconsin stop, it has been revealed the John Daly will also not be appearing at what is possibly the most prestigious senior golf event anywhere. The 51-year old player, who took home his 1st tournament for players over 50-years old this May at the Insperity Invitational, has regrettably had to withdraw from the US Senior Open, which is to be held at the Salem Massachusetts Country Club, because of an injury he has suffered to his shoulder.

Ted Tryba Will Replace Daly

It has been announced that Ted Tryba will replace John Daly. Tryba will be paired with Bob Tway and Jeff Sluman for the 1st 2 rounds. It will be the 1st US Senior Open for Tryba after he turned 50 in January.

Mixed Results for Daly in 2017

Aside from his Woodlands victory, Daly’s results in 2017 have been mixed. Except for that win, he has not managed to finish in a top-10 position in 9 starts. His last 2 appearances were at the 1st 2 senior Majors of 2017, where he placed T-32 in the Regions Tradition, with 65 at closing, and T-17 at the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship.

John Daly Accomplished in More than Golf

Daly’s musical contributions have been criminally overlooked until now. He has covered the Bob Dylan classic, Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door, more than the songwriter himself has, and even performed this hit alongside Kenny G in China.

Daly has, in fact, released 2 albums, and also made an appearance on a record for Kid Rock. Darius Rucker worked with Daly on those 2 albums, and the kind of credibility input from Hootie & The Blowfish can give a man is hard to overstate.

Daly’s 1st album was released in 2002, and was titled My Life. The songs on the album, and the lyrics in particular, are very raw, and mark Daly’s attempts at putting his experiences into musical phrases. This simplicity, however, ends up by being able to deliver the meaning of his songs in a somewhat brutal fashion. The lead track, for example, titled I’m Drunk, Dead Broke, has him talking about gambling and getting smashed, and Mr Fan, appearing later in the album, quite poignantly laments the fact that his golf game is not what it once was.
