Mcllroy And Woods Share Lead

September 14, 2018 by

Tiger Woods started with the lowest opening round in almost two decades as he joined Northern Ireland’s Rory Mcllroy at the top of the BMW Championship roster.

Woods, who is a 14-time major winner along with Mcllroy, have a one stroke lead ahead of everyone else after both shot eight under 62. The lead has been marked as America’s best PGA first round since the Byron Nelson classic in 1999.

Woods claimed an eagle and seven birdies, with his only mishap coming in the form of a late bogey on his back nine at the Aronimink Golf Course in Philadelphia. Mcllroy joined Woods in the lead with a round of ten birdies with six in succession, which began with the last hole of his front nine, a career-best for the Irish golfer. He then went on to bogey his 16th and 17th holes of the round.

This is the first time that Woods has ever shared a PGA Tour lead after any round since his participating in the 2013 WGC-Cadillac Championship. Woods told reporters afterwards that he made a few putts during the day, along with birdies at 10, 12, and 13, stating that it was a good way to get things rolling.

It’s also the sixth time that Woods has recorded nine holes in 29 or better, and on four of those five occasions, he went on to win the event.

Behind Woods and Mcllroy is American Xander Shauffele in third place with a 63.
