Golfer Phillip Price has claimed the John Jacobs Trophy for the first time ever after he was able to take first place in the Staysure Tour Order of Merit, an event that concluded the 2019 season. The 53 year old player, from Wales, finalized the season with 12 top 10 finishes, and had also won the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship that took place in August earlier this year. Talking about his win, Price said that being number 1 after 19 tournaments was really important to him, and that he had never won an Order of Merit of any kind before.
The golfer had finished in second place last year for the season rankings behind previous two time John Jacobs Trophy winner Paul Broadhurst, but Price’s inconsistency this year ended helping him reach the top of the rankings. He was also able to successfully hold off South African James Kingston at the MCB Tour Championship that took place in Mauritius, where he finished tied in third place with 2888 points, 361 ahead of Kingston.
Adding to his statement, Price stated that he had needed to play well on the day, and he managed to make a number of birdies early on in the game, and kept the buffer between himself and the other players that were outside of the top 10. He finally said that it was nice to be able to birdie the last and celebrate, and that it was nice to realise he was number one.
