Presidents Cup Officially Underway

The 12th Presidents Cup Is Underway

The Presidents Cup is played every two years – and this year will be the 12th instalment of the event.  The United States have won a dominating nine times, and the Internationals technically only once – as the remaining year ended in a tie.  This year’s American team is made up of a number of really big names, including 5 major champions – Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Phil Mickelson, to name but a few.  Captain Steve Stricker will be leading the way.

The International team isn’t too far behind as far as major champs go – Jason Day, Adam Scott, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel – they’re all there.

The action will go down at the Liberty National golf course – 7,328 yards of golfing pride.  The advantage here belongs to the Americans, with eight of their players having played at Liberty National in 2013.  The International side isn’t completely in the dark – four of their players graced the greens in that same year.

Will The Internationals Beat Extreme Odds?

The Americans are the favourites at +350 – with the Internationals way on the other side of the spectrum at -350.  The Americans are coming off of three out of four majors wins in this year’s FedEx Cup and are the favourites my a mile and more.  The Internationals would really have to pull a rabbit from the hat on this one if they are to beat the depth of the Americans. You can place your bets on which team you think will win online at Crownbet, and you never know when you may be backing a winner.

Steve Stricker: No Anthem Demonstration

Captain Steve Stricker has announced that the US Presidents Cup side has opted against any form of national protest during the singing of the National Anthem.  Sunday saw President Donald Trump slamming the NFL for their protest demonstration against racial injustice in America, during the singing of the Anthem.

Stricker has said that despite their acknowledging the many challenges faced by America and the world, the singing of the National Anthem would serve to bring the American side together as a team.   He confirmed that it had been a decision made by all the American players playing this year’s Presidents Cup and that the players wanted to show their support for the flag.

Tony Johnstone, assistant to the International side’s skipper Nick Price, agrees with the decision taken by the American side.  He said that he didn’t believe that the visiting Internationals had any business taking part in any form of demonstration – especially since they were visiting another country and that such a thing would be extremely arrogant.
