Jordan Spieth, the former Texas Longhorn has committed to playing in this years World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play. Spieth won the championship in 2012 in Texas and will now be heading back to what he described as his favourite city in the world to play from March the 21st to the 25th. Spieth says that he considers Texas his second home and that he loves coming back to Austin, whether to play or just for a visit.
A Strong Field
The event is being held at the Austin Country Club and it’s sure to host a very pro-Spieth crowd, and at present he looks to be a favourite.
Spieth will join what is an already-strong field, with Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas and Dustin Johnson all set to compete. Spieth has made 4 career starts in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and he’s looking forward to some fierce competition.
During his 2 year period in Texas Spieth was a regular at the Austin Country Club, so the course is hugely familiar to him, and he says he always looks forward to playing on the Pete Dye design. He says that he doesn’t often feel at home on a course, but that Austin really is like his second home, and that when he plays, he’s completely at ease.
The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play doesn’t just showcase amazing talents like Spieth though, it also serves as a major fundraiser, and since its inception it has raised more than $17 million making it a worthwhile event to support regardless.
