Spieth Credits Australia For Success

Spieth Aiming for USPGA Win

Is hit his swing?  Is it his unique driving style?  No.  It’s Australia.  So says Jordan Spieth.  The Texan pro-golfing machine credits his affinity for Australia as the driving force that has propelled him as far as being weeks away from potentially becoming the youngest player ever to have won all four of golf’s major championships.

By walking away victorious from the Open at Royal Birkdale last month, Spieth has joined the ranks of Jack Nicklaus by bagging three of golf’s four major championships before his 24th birthday.  Proud guzzler from the Claret Jug, Spieth has confirmed that he would be returning to Australia in November to defend his Open title at the Australian Golf Club.

Spieth supposedly draws inspiration from his trips to Australia, crediting his annual journeys to the land down under as the spark that lights the flint that keeps him going for the remainder of the year.  He was quoted as saying that he is able to relax in Australia, and that this greatly aids going forward effectively.

Spieth now has his gaze firmly fixed on the USPGA Championship, running from August 10-13.  Winning the USPGA Championship will secure the title of being the youngest player in history to have won all four major championships.

Welcome To The Future

Meanwhile in Twitter land – the PGA has extended the reach of its national golf championship by closing live streaming deals with social media giant Twitter and digital sports publisher GiveMeSport.  The Professional Golfers’ Association has really gone all out trying to ensure that the USPGA gets as much coverage and wide-spread interest as possible.

The multi-platform alternative that is BBC-Twitter-GiveMeSport will be replacing former broadcaster Sky Sports.

This year’s coverage will be the most extensive coverage of the USPGA yet.  The actual coverage on BBC as well as rolling feed via BBC’s red button will be complimented by a digital distribution plan that includes live streaming on Facebook (GiveMeSport).  GiveMeSport lays claim to attracting in excess of 750 000 golf fans in the United Kingdom alone.

The partnerships with Twitter and GiveMeSport will mark the first time that the PGA has partnered with an online publisher.  The bold move also seeks to bring the game of golf to a younger audience.  GiveMeSport has an estimated 26 million Facebook followers – most of them between the ages of 18 and 34.

Truly, the future awaits the USPGA.
